protein and Indian dairy industry

Ever wondered why in spite of India being one of the  largest producer of milk still does not produce whey protein brands . I know that there are few Indian brands but they also get their whey from New Zealand or Australia. I am not sure if Amul is even thinking of this as a profitable business. Looks like they are happy to feed the Indian population with butter and cream. Agreed that whey processing plants are expensive but Amul is being a big player in the industry should at least try.

Indian athletes and sports enthusiast have no option but to buy imported whey protein powder which comes mostly from US.
It's the problem with all types of Indian domestic industry where stakeholders only care about profit and  less processing and good marketing means big sales for them. Moreover fancy ice creams and utterly butter tastes better and brings more revenue to these companies. Only God knows when will the situation change .....
